The roots of knoll date all the way back to 1865 when Wilhem Knoll founded the family business built on a reputation for high quality furniture.
As the business moves through the generations Walter Knoll and his brother redirect the business and create furniture for new modernist interiors. In the 1920s Walter Gropius founds the Bauhaus School in Weimar, Germany, which in turn impacts design forever and the Bauhaus movement was born. With designs such as the Wassily chair, the Cesca chair and Barcelona chair all arriving shortly afterwards, all with their own history and story of design.
